About Indium Phosphide (InP) Technology
The world's communications infrastructure depends on semiconductor lasers, and particularly those based on indium phosphide technology.
Indium phosphide lasers are engineered to emit at wavelengths that are optimal for long-distance transmission through fiber optics.
In short, they enable the optical networks that form the global internet.
Coherent's broad portfolio of InP components includes application-specific Fabry-Pérot lasers, directly modulated lasers (DMLs), and tunable lasers.
It also includes photodiodes for high-speed receivers and power monitoring.
In 2022, we introduced 200 Gbps indium phosphide electro-absorption modulated lasers (EMLs) for high-speed datacenter transceivers.
This design provides our customers with the most advanced, robust, and cost-competitive laser devices for their 800G and next-gen 1.6T datacom transceiver designs.
Our world-class and highly reliable InP technology platform is one of the very few in the industry that has been proven, with more than one hundred million lasers in the field deployed over the last decades.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
Join our cutting-edge semiconductor development team this summer as an intern and contribute to the advancement of high-speed photodiode technology for AI data centers.
You will engage in hands-on tasks involving the characterization of photodiodes with bandwidth approaching 100GHz, utilizing advanced measurement techniques and data analysis tools.
This role provides a unique opportunity to apply and enhance your skills in a highly technical environment, contributing to significant projects under the guidance of experienced professionals.
* Characterize all aspects of photodiodes, including:
+ Optical characteristics: responsivity, responsivity mapping, integrated lens parameters, optical return loss, polarization-dependent loss
+ Electrical characteristics: dark current, forward current, small signal RF response, high-speed pulse response
* Assist in the development of computational tools and algorithms for analyzing photoluminescence maps, identifying significant variations in PL intensity.
* Upload and manage data sets related to photodiode measurements in designated databases, ensuring accuracy and accessibility.
* If time allows, there will be an opportunity to work on high-power laser characterization, expanding your expertise in semiconductor optoelectronics.
Education & Experience
* Currently pursuing or recently completed a bachelor's degree in Electronics Engineering, Material Science, Computer Science, or a related field.
* Experience with MATLAB, Python, C#, or similar programming languages and tools used for signal analysis.
* Familiarity with AI for engineering is a plus.
* Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team.
* Strong communication skills with the ability to presen...
