Job Summary:
As a Direct Support Professional (DSP), you will assist individuals in working toward their personal goals.

Paid feeding assistants provide dining assistance only for residents with no complicated feeding problems.
Complicated feeding problems include difficulty swallowing, recurrent lung aspirations and tube or parenteral IV feedings.

Residents are assessed for appropriateness for the feeding assistant program by the interdisciplinary team, taking into consideration the most recent assessment and plan of care.

Only residents who have been selected by the interdisciplinary team are eligible for feeding assistance by a paid feeding assistant.

Paid feeding assistants must successfully complete a state approved training course taught by qualified professionals (as defined by state law) before being permitted to feed residents.

Our facility's state approved training program consists of eight (8) hours of training in the following topics: a.
Feeding techniques; b.
Assistance with feeding and hydration; c.
Communication and interpersonal skills; d.
Appropriate responses to resident behavior; e.
Safety and emergency procedures, including the Heimlich maneuver; f.
Infection control; g.
Resident rights; and h.
Recognizing changes in residents that are inconsistent with their normal behavior and the importance of reporting those changes to the supervisory nurse.

In conjunction with the facility's registered dietitian (RD), an RN will oversee the Feeding Assistant Training Program to ensure that feeding techniques are taught correctly.

Our facility's paid feeding assistants will work under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN) or a licensed practical nurse (LPN).
Specifically, the supervising nurse will monitor paid feeding assistants for: a.
The use of appropriate feeding techniques; b.
Whether they are assisting the resident according to his/her identified eating and drinking needs; c.
Whether they are respecting the resident's rights and dignity; and d.
Adherence to infection control and safe food handling practices.
8.
The use of paid feeding assistants is not intended to substitute for nursing staff.

In the case of an emergency, the paid feeding assistant shall call the nurse supervisor through the resident call system.

Position Highlights:
* Job Type: Full-Time
* Location: Sleep Lab
* Schedule: 12-hour night shifts
Responsibilities:
Provides appropriate patient care for sleep study patients.
* Provides Sleep Study on assigned patients in a timely manner by applying electrodes, belts, and sensors, performing bio-calibration, monitoring polysomnogram, splitting study when criteria is met, providing therapy oxygen, CPAP, or BiPAP per policy as indicated, concluding study with review of data with patient, cleaning & storage of equipment, and preparing room for next study.
* Provides staging and scoring of data by reviewing study staging each epoch between lights off and lights on and identifying sleep disorders RERA, hypopnea, apnea according to AASM scoring guidelines.
Documents the patient record per departmental standards.
* Prepares Patient Notes by documenting tests, responding to therapy, any side effects, and patient/family teaching.
* Reviews physician order, review of patient chart including appropriate lab work, diagnostics, consultations, and nursing assessment/notes.
* Completes billing in a timely manner, usually within 24 hrs of service.
Provides appropriate teaching or mentoring to patients, students or other ancillary professionals.
* Educates each patient on the use of oxygen, cpap, bipap, common side effects, and the reason for taking them.
Explains the terminology and data when patients inquire.
* Communicates with DME staff the evaluation of patients, what may be appropriate care, and any concerns or instruction for patient safety.
* Communicates with other Respiratory Therapists when transferring care of all necessary information for continuity of care and patient safety.
* Assists in the teaching of students.
Shares knowledge and insight to improve patient care and/or satisfaction.
Requirements:
* Associate’s degree in Polysomnographic Technology, Respiratory Therapy, or a related field required (Bachelor’s degree preferred).
* CPSGT preferred
* RT License Required
* Current RPSGT/RST or Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) licensed in the state of practice
* Current BLS
Compensation:
* $38.00 - $ 43.70 per hour, depending on education and experience.
* Discretionary bonuses, relocation expenses, merit increase, market adjustments, recognition bonuses, and other forms of discretionary compensation may be available.

* Relocation: Must relocate to Grand Junction, CO 81505 before starting work.
