Director of Nursing
Job Summary
Manages the day-to-day clinical services of a more complex community to ensure residents' activities of
daily living (ADLs) and healthcare needs are met.
Verifies residents are treated with respect and dignity
and verifies residents are receiving quality care as their needs change.
Supervises and provides leadership,
as well as coaching, to licensed nurses and other direct care staff within the community, while creating an
inclusive community culture that provides high quality resident experiences and care, and engages
residents, families, and associates.
May be responsible for leading additional clinical leadership team up to five members.
The HWD level
for each community is determined based on the total complexity of the role.
Complexity criteria include,
but are not limited to, factors such as size, type of product lines, medication management regulations, 90-
day assessment requirements, multiple licensure requirements, state regulatory complexity, and skilled
services requiring an RN.
Essential Functions
1.
Directly supervises community-based licensed, certified, and non-certified clinical
associates.
2.
Partners and collaborates with district team leaders to verify that day-to-day clinical
services meet Company standards and applicable state regulations.
3.
Leads care associates and community to gain a reputation for best in market ADL
care.
4.
Acts as a hands-on leader who supervises, directs, and motivates clinical associates.
Attracts, develops, engages, and retains associates in accordance with Company
policies.
Recruits and hires high quality and engaged direct care staff while
confirming they are appropriately trained and developed to meet the needs of
residents.
5.
Reviews promotions, development plans, disciplinary actions, and termination
decisions ensuring consistency in the selection and retention of quality direct care
staff.
Encourages teamwork and collaboration, and cultivates an inclusive community
culture, while maximizing labor productivity and efficiencies.
Analyzes trends and
implements strategies to reduce turnover and increase retention of direct care staff,
appropriately minimizing premium labor.

Provides training and education to direct care staff on an ongoing basis with
classroom in-services and situation-specific training.
7.
Supervises the maintenance of resident charts and reviews documentation performed
by clinical staff.
8.
As described and allowed in the Nurse Practice Act and as required by state
regulation, proactively manages care and services for each resident, evaluates
effectiveness, and maximizes the resident's opportunity to remain in their
environment.
Participates in pre-admission screening of prospective new residents.
Confirms that required documentation is completed prior to or upon resident
admission.
