Park Maintenance Worker - Parks

ABOUT THE POSITION

The County of Riverside seeks candidates to fill positions throughout Riverside County.

A list of eligible candidates will be established to fill current and future vacancies.

The Riverside County Regional Park and Open-Space District has an opportunity for a Park Maintenance Worker - Parks who will assist at Open-Space reserves across Riverside County.

The Park Maintenance Worker will conduct maintenance work at Open-Space reserves across Riverside County, sometimes independently in remote locations away from established roads.

Duties for this position include constructing, installing, and repairing of fences and gates; string trimming, tractor mowing, hand removing invasive non-native plants, and applying herbicide for weed abatement and habitat restoration.

The Park Maintenance Worker will operate skid steers, tractors, mowers, OHV vehicles, chain saws, and GPS devices in the performance of duties.

Competitive candidates will have experience with irrigation and landscaping, with experience operating associated tools and medium to heavy equipment, such as skid steers and tractors.

Additionally, herbicide and pesticide application experience, a Qualified Applicator License (QAL) and/or Qualified Applicator Certificate (QAC), and experience in welding and/or installing fences is highly desired.

The work schedule is Tuesday - Saturday, but may change based on business needs, Additionally, the Park Maintenance Worker will work weekends and holidays.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES
• Maintain open space areas; maintain and improve open space areas by removing non-native plants; remove dead trees and branches by using chain and hand saws; plant and maintain trees; remove trash, lumber, dump piles, debris, appliances and furniture from open space areas.

• Operate a variety of trucks and tractors in hauling trash, debris, lumber, dump piles, debris, appliances and furniture.

• Perform minor carpentry and welding work for the installation and repair of various fences and gates; perform semi-skilled maintenance work in cutting and laying pipe for the maintenance and repair of irrigation systems.

• Perform weed abatement, propagation, and habitat restoration.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Experience: Two years of performing grounds or building maintenance and repair, landscape gardening, or as a Park Attendant with the County of Riverside Parks Department.
