Millwright Optical Alignment Technician
JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Summary
Optical Alignment Technician is responsible for performing precision alignment tasks using various optical alignment tools, including Theodolites, Precision Levels, and laser alignment systems.
Must Plan, lay-out and perform all types of mechanical equipment setting, installation, alignment, and maintenance work in accordance with all applicable plans, specifications, codes, and industry standards.
Work in other crafts at levels appropriate to training and skills as requested by project supervision.
Must have the ability to take direction from a higher skilled worker or foreman.
Key Responsibilities
Maintain positive working relationships with all members of the crew.
Produce high quality work, safely and productively at all times.
Conduct precision alignment of machines, structures, and components using Theodolites, Precision Levels, and laser alignment tools.
This includes equipment setup, calibration, and ensuring high-accuracy readings.
Calibrate and maintain alignment equipment such as Theodolites, laser systems, and precision leveling devices to ensure accurate and repeatable measurements.
Accurately document alignment data, including any necessary adjustments, deviations, or corrections, and provide detailed reports to supervisors or clients.
Analyze engineering blueprints, schematics, and alignment tolerances to plan and execute precise alignment activities.
Execute laser alignment on rotating equipment (e.g., motors, pumps, shafts) to ensure the equipment operates within design tolerances, thereby improving performance and minimizing wear.
Provide feedback to ensure all materials, tools, equipment and information is available for the work.
Look for opportunities for improvement in all tasks, means and methods regarding the work and be willing to learn from others.
Continually seek opportunities to share knowledge and teach others.
High proficiency in all related trade mathematics.
Inspect subordinates work, ensure accuracy and compliance with plans and specifications, explain deficiencies and take any necessary corrective action.
Eliminate WASTE such as waiting, rework, transporting, material storage and time.
Minimum Job Requirements
Must have a minimum of three years' (level I), four years' (level II), five years' (level III) and six plus years' (level Sr.) experience in the industrial/commercial construction industry and have an in-depth understanding of the millwright trade.
Must be able to read and understand drawings, specifications, safety, and quality standards and effectively utilize all trade tools and equipment relevant to the work.
Possess effective verbal and written communication skills.
