Regional MDS Specialist
General Purpose
The MDS Specialist facilitates the completion of resident assessments in partnership with the Administrator, clinical team, and the Utilization department.
They ensure appropriate clinical services are provided and optimal reimbursement is captured for each resident in accordance with accepted standards of nurse practice and federal and state regulations.
Essential Duties
• Participate in ongoing care in collaboration with the physician, Director of Nursing Services (DNS), clinical team members, social services, physical therapy, the resident, and the resident's family by tailoring care to meet individual needs of the resident.
• Partner with the clinical leadership team to facilitate the assessment and care planning process through the completion of the MDS, as scheduled for each resident.
• Ensure accurate and timely completion of all MDS Assessments including PPS Medicare, quarterly, annual, and significant change assessments.
• Communicate level of care for new admissions and ensure all areas triggered on the resident assessment protocol summary are included in the resident's plan of care.
• Provide education and monitoring of facility utilization management systems and processes that support accurate claims and billing.
• Develop and implement standardized training modules, and training and in-servicing of new and current MDS staff.

This position does not have any supervisory requirements.
Qualification Education and/or Experience

Language Skills
Must have strong written and verbal communication skills.
Mathematical Skills High school level mathematics preferred.
Reasoning Ability
Provide accurate, detailed responses and build effective working relationships.
Ability to work collaboratively with key stakeholders.
Detail-oriented and able to maintain confidential and private personnel data.
