Swim Team Coach
Overview: A Swim Coach is responsible for assisting the Head Swim Coach with managing the Thoreau Sharks Swim Team in accordance with the rules and regulations set forth by The Thoreau Club.
Under the direction of the Head Swim Coach and the Director of Aquatics, the Swim Coach will rely on experience and judgment to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of their assigned program area.
Additionally, they are responsible for establishing objectives, timelines, and methods to deliver services.
Work is typically reviewed upon completion for soundness, appropriateness, and conformity to policy and requirements.
Approximately 5-10 hours per week.
Must be available Monday-Thursday at 5pm.
Key Responsibilities Lead practices with care and excitement.Provide swimmers with the knowledge to understand and master stokes allowing for movement up through the swim team groups.Communicate effectively with the Head Coach about daily practice procedures, emergencies, and information regarding swimmers and swim team well-being.Recognize and corrects improper strokes or skills using positive feedback.Communicate effectively with students in a patient, friendly manner.Engage parents and cultivate relationships to create a welcoming swim team environmentAttend all team meetings as deemed necessary by the Head Coach and the Director of Aquatics.
Work collaboratively and effectively with others.Conduct self in a professional, friendly, helpful, courteous, and diplomatic manner at all times.Administer First Aid and/or CPR as necessary.Report any hazards or problems to the Director of Aquatics immediately.
Qualifications Minimum 16 years of age.Minimum 2 years experience in competitive swimming.Minimum 2 years experience instructing swim lessons.Must understand how children learn, while having the ability to communicate clearly and directly with them.Must obtain CPR/AED & First Aid certification within 30 days from hire date, must be from one of the following certifying organization:American Red Cross, American Heart Association, or American Safety & Health Institute.
Physical Requirements Must be able to stand, walk, speak, kneel, climb ladders and stairs, and reach throughout the workday.Must be able to hear, utilize close and distant vison, and use a keyboardAbility to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical incidents, and the physical ability to act swiftly in emergency situations.
Ability to adequately observe participants activities, enforce safety regulations, and apply appropriate policies and procedures.
Work Environment Noise, water, dirt, fumes, dust, chemicals, extreme heat, extreme cold.
