CMM Operator

Job Summary:

The CMM Operator / Quality Technician is responsible for performing precision dimensional inspections of components and assemblies using Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM), traditional inspection tools, and CNC-based measuring equipment.

This role ensures that automotive parts meet all internal and customer quality specifications, supporting continuous improvement efforts and compliance with ISO & IATF standards.

Key Responsibilities:


* Operate and program CMM machines (PC-DMIS or similar software) to perform accurate and repeatable dimensional inspections.


* Conduct part inspections using CNC-controlled or manual measurement equipment, including micrometers, calipers, height gauges, and optical comparators.


* Interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, blueprints, control plans, and specifications to determine inspection criteria.


* Record inspection data accurately and completely within the company’s quality management system (QMS) and maintain associated records.


* Collaborate with Production, Engineering, and Quality teams to address dimensional discrepancies, non-conformances, and root cause analysis.


* Provide support in the creation and revision of inspection and test plans, work instructions, and quality documentation.


* Perform first, in-process and final inspections to ensure conformance at all stages of production.


* Assist in calibration and maintenance of measurement equipment, including documenting calibration records.


* Participate in internal audits, corrective actions, and continuous improvement projects.


* Support training efforts for operators on inspection criteria and measurement techniques as needed.

Qualifications & Skills:


* High school diploma or equivalent (GED); technical training or associate degree in manufacturing or quality is a plus.


* 2+ years of experience in a quality, CNC, or CMM-related role in a manufacturing environment (preferably automotive).


* Proficient in using measurement tools and interpreting GD&T symbols and blueprints.


* Familiarity with CMM software (PC-DMIS preferred) and CNC machine interface as it pertains to inspection tasks.


* Working knowledge of ISO & IATF standards.


* Strong attention to detail, communication, and documentation skills.


* Ability to work independently and within a team in a production-focused environment.


* Experience with SPC, capability studies, or quality data analysis.


* Background in CNC machining or setup preferred but not required.


* Knowledge of APQP and PPAP processes.


* Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 35 lbs for extended periods.


* Visual acuity required for detailed inspection work and screen use.

Work Environment:


* Manufacturing plant and quality lab settings with exposure to noise, machinery, and inspection equipment.
