As a Business Economist at the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, you will utilize analytical skills to conduct current analysis and applied research on a wide range of economic topics and support the policy work of senior staff economists.

You will provide written and oral commentary internally to senior management and others and externally to the general public.

You are expected to manage your time with minimal supervision and meet tight deadlines.

You will provide work direction and collaborate closely with others.

This position does not have any direct reports.

Your Responsibilities:


* Prepare regular reports on the national and regional economies and analyze various issues as requested


* Stay abreast of economic developments and applied research on topics related to current business cycle and monetary policy conditions 


* Help create and manage presentations for senior management to deliver at Board of Directors meetings and external events


* Attend Board of Directors meetings and draft related commentary


* Assist as directed in staff preparation of the bank president for FOMC meetings  


* As directed, conduct applied research; communicate analysis to senior management and others; publish articles in Economic Perspectives, the Chicago Fed Letter, Chicago Fed Insights and business news publications


* Make presentations to the general public about the mission of the Federal Reserve and the state of the economy  


* Contribute to a highly collegial research environment, attend seminars, participate in interviewing prospective job candidates, train associate economists, and engage in other department management activities  


* Perform other duties as needed  

Your Background:


* Master's Degree in Economics or related field or Bachelor’s Degree in Economics or related field with additional experience  


* Minimum 3 years of experience


* The ideal candidate should be self-motivated; have excellent computer skills including but not limited to R and Python; possess an in-depth knowledge of economic data and statistics; exhibit strong analytical and problem-solving abilities; have excellent written and oral communication skills; and demonstrate strong organizational and planning skills with an ability to work efficiently to meet pressing deadlines.

What we Offer:


* The expected starting salary range for this position is between $140,200 and $165,900 annually in addition to annual performance-based discretionary bonuses.

Final salary and offer will be determined based on the applicant’s relevant experience, skills, internal equity, and alignment with geographic and other market data.
