Accounting Associate Position Summary:

The AP Accounting Associate works closely with the AP Supervisor assisting in Accounts Payable duties.

In addition, this position will perform general and entry level accounting duties requiring analysis and individual judgement in the application of accounting procedures.

The Accounting Associate will review all documents and work prepared for accuracy, adherence to generally accepted accounting procedures and compliance with procedures described in the accounting manual. 

Accounting Associate Job Responsibilities


* Works with the AP Supervisor to perform accounts payable duties including processing monthly credit card statements, processing invoices on a daily/weekly basis, and processing PO requests from the electronic PO system.


* Assists with the accounts payable monthly closing process.


* Assists with year-end process of vendor 1099’s. 


* Creates journal entries for expenses as needed.


* Creates/provides reports as needed.


* Carries out agency policies and procedures while participating in daily routine of the agency.


* Establishes and maintains a positive working relationship with coworkers to promote a quality service image and environment.


* Attends and participates in staff meetings, training sessions, special projects and professional development opportunities as required.


* Handles emergency situations that may require flexibility of time and area of assignment.


* Performs other duties, responsibilities and related tasks as assigned.

Accounting Associate Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in accounting or business and two (2) years of accounting-related experience, preferably in a not-for profit sector, or a relevant combination of education and experience.

Knowledge of well-defined accounting office practices and procedures.

Must be proficient in word-processing and spreadsheet applications, preferably Microsoft Office.
