Athletic Trainer - Orthopedics - Nemours Children's Health, Deptford

The Orthopedic ATC will develop and manage the Pre/Post rehabilitation programs and Performance Enhancement programs for clients within the program.

They will provide treatment to those individuals who have musculoskeletal injuries occurring during participation or training for scholastic, professional or sanctioned amateur athletics.

Within this program the ATC will administer and perform appropriate techniques and methods in the prevention on injuries and demonstrate knowledge and use of protective bracing/splinting, safety equipment, education of students, coaches and parents.

The associate in the position will demonstrate clinical competency in direct patient care and complete the ATC clinical competencies.

This associate will also assume Assumes primary responsibility to prepare and maintain sports therapeutic treatment and patient care areas within the safety and infection control guidelines.

This position reports to the Orthopedic Clinical Services Specialist.

The Orthopedic ATC will have direct patient contact primarily for the evaluation and treatment of medical and musculoskeletal pathology consistent with the scope and practice of athletic training clinical competencies as defined by the NATABOC and the State of Pennsylvania, Delaware, or New Jersey Athletic Training Affiliated Credentialing Board.

They may be asked to take histories, perform patient education, answer clinical phone calls, and triage patients.

Position is Monday - Friday 8a - 5p.

Responsibilities:

A.

Direct Patient Care Responsibilities

Demonstrates proficiency in the care of all pediatric and adolescent patients.

Maintains patient confidentiality related to conversation, medical records, treatment plans, etc.

Follows basic medical precautions for each patient (for eating, drinking, mobility) and refers appropriately to health care team/nursing unit.

Assists physicians and therapist/nursing personnel where designated support is needed (such as transfers, ambulation practice, etc.)

Demonstrates use of treatment activities that are functional and relevant to the patients established goals utilizing creativity, variety and integration of new treatment techniques and therapeutic modalities.

Be able to discuss treatment plans, education and patient status to team members and families.

Act as liaison with school ATC staff or coaches following discharge.

Uses machines and tools in a responsible manner adhering to safety practices as outlined by the manufacturer and OSHA standards.

Development, organization and implementation of Pre/Post habilitation programs and skill enhancement programs.

Provides orientation, supervision, and guidance to volunteers and students serving in assigned program area.

Indirect Patient Care Responsibilities

Maintains equipment, identifies ordering needs for medical, and treatment supplies and materials.

Performs patient check in and scheduling function when needed.
