POSITION SUMMARY: This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.

The Swim Instructor maintains a supportive, positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals and provides direct leadership, instruction, and motivation for students in swim classes.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Be knowledgeable, understands, and consistently applies safety rules, policies and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area.

Always keeping Safety at the forefront of your mind.

\Maintains records as required (i.e., attendance, progress reports, etc.) and completes incident and accident reports as necessary.Instructs swimming lessons in accordance with YMCA guidelines, having prepared lesson plans accordingly.Builds effective, authentic relationships with students and parents; helps them connect with each other and the YMCA.

Encourages parent involvement and identifies potential volunteers.Conveys information on aquatics programs and schedules and as appropriate refers students and parents to other YMCA programs.Maintains effective, positive relationships with the members, participants, and other staff.Organizes and puts away needed class equipment.

Reports damaged equipment.Trains and supervises class aides as assigned.Checks the pool for hazardous conditions when arriving.Attends all staff meetings and in-service trainings.Works effectively with people of different backgrounds, abilities, opinions, and perceptions.
