Instrument Engineer

Job Requirements

We have an exciting opportunity for an Instrument Manufacturing Engineer to join the Specialty Lab Solutions (SLS) team at our Llanberis facility.

Hours: Monday-Friday, 08:30-16:30

This role will play a key part in supporting the manufacture and continuous improvement of the IMMULITE XPi and VersaCell instruments and associated spare parts.

Working closely with Engineering, R&D, Quality, Supply Chain, and Production teams, you will help drive manufacturing excellence, implement engineering changes, optimise processes, and support the development of a world-class manufacturing operation.

What You'll Be Doing:


* Lead the implementation of engineering changes across manufacturing processes.


* Develop, maintain, and improve manufacturing processes, work instructions, and technical documentation.


* Support product transfers, manufacturing activities, and new product introductions.


* Troubleshoot production issues and implement effective corrective actions.


* Drive continuous improvement initiatives using Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma principles.


* Ensure compliance with quality, regulatory, safety, and environmental requirements.


* Perform process capability assessments, audits, and manufacturing investigations.


* Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve productivity, quality, and reliability.


* Support supplier and component selection, considering quality, performance, cost, and obsolescence.


* Provide technical support, guidance, and training to production teams.


* Support internal and external audits and contribute to achieving operational KPI targets.

Work Experience


* Degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical, Electrical, Electronic Engineering, or equivalent experience.


* Experience in a manufacturing engineering role within a regulated industry.


* Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, quality systems, and continuous improvement methodologies.


* Experience managing engineering changes and implementing process improvements.


* Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and schematics.


* Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.


* Ability to work effectively across multiple functions and stakeholders.


* Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, GMP, and GDP practices.

Desirable Experience


* Medical device, diagnostics, life sciences, or other regulated manufacturing environments.


* Knowledge of FDA, ISO, or similar regulatory standards.


* Experience with statistical process control (SPC) and process validation activities.


* Mechanical and electrical assembly process development and optimisation.
