Internal Services - Policy & Government Relations Intern - Summer 2027

Deloitte LLP's Policy & Government Relations (PGR) team is seeking a qualified policy and legislative intern eager to learn how a professional services firm engages in state-level advocacy and policymaking.

The intern will gain firsthand exposure to state legislative processes, policy research, stakeholder engagement, and the tools and services PGR provides to internal stakeholders.

Work you'll do

You will support the PGR team by researching, tracking, and reporting on a wide variety of legislative and policy issues at the federal and state levels.

You will develop written products, which may include presentations, memos, policy briefs, and fact sheets.

You may also have the opportunity to attend congressional hearings, policy briefings, think tank panels, and other events and provide briefings about those events to the team.

A successful candidate would possess these skills:


* Proven experience working independently and collaboratively with a team in a fast-paced environment


* Demonstrated effective written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills


* Proven ability to manage and meet deadlines


* Proven excellent research skills and attention to detail

The team

PGR engages on various public policy issues both directly through engagement with policymakers and indirectly through participation in organizations, such as trade associations, business coalitions, and think tanks.

The team also provides policy analysis, political intelligence, strategic insights, and guidance to internal stakeholders, including business leaders and client account teams.

Qualifications

Required:


* Undergraduate student with an expected graduation date in 2028, majoring in political science, government, public policy, public administration, or a related field


* Experience using Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel, and Word


* Availability for an internship between June 2027 and August 2027


* Ability to travel up to 1-2 weeks during the internship


* Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future


* Candidates must be at least 18 years of age at the time of employment

Preferred:


* Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.4


* Strong understanding of policy environment and/or experience working for or closely with Capitol Hill, state or local government, policy organizations (e.g., think tanks, advocacy groups), or in another government relations-related role


* Prior experience working on issues such as financial services, artificial intelligence, technology, energy, workforce development, health and human services and/or previous consulting experience


* Preference for candidates who can be located in Washington, D.C.
