Highway Design Intern

DESCRIPTION

Michael Baker International is seeking to hire a Summer 2027 Highway Design Intern to work out of our Detroit (Dearborn), MI office.

The Highway Design Intern will assist Transportation Engineers and Project Managers with planning, design, analysis and production on highway and roadway engineering projects.

Focus of work is related to civil transportation related engineering and may involve drafting and plan preparation, preparation of design and quantity calculations, field inspection, and general office tasks.

The Intern will work under the supervision of a Project Manager or Licensed Engineers.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


* Prepare engineering related calculations and develop drawings and visual aids.


* Assist project managers and engineers with various tasks.


* Draft details and make minor CAD revisions.


* Assist with data collection, input, verification, and manipulation


* Support engineering analysis and design, including use of software or calculation sheets to complete highway design, and design drawings.


* Support with preparation of design plans, reports, technical memorandums, and construction specifications.


* Conduct data entry and analysis


* Support quantity take-off, cost estimate preparation, and material/equipment cost solicitation.


* Assist with field documentation, report generation, and administrative tasks as assigned.

PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS


* Enrolled in a Bachelor or Master's degree program in Civil or Environmental Engineering with at least 1 year of college coursework.


* Computer skills in Microsoft Office.

AutoCAD or MicroStation design software is preferred


* Excellent organizational and communication skills.


* Technical skills for daily tasks include good analytical skills, strong technical writing ability, and excellent communication skills.

COMPENSATION
The approximate compensation range for this position is $20 - $26 per hour.

This compensation range is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting.

Actual compensation is dependent upon factors such as education, qualifications, experience, skillset, and physical work location.
