IT Technician
Nature of Work This is entry-level work assisting City employees with a variety of technical support activities.
Activities associated with the job include assisting the Technology Manager by providing technical support involving the installation, maintenance, repair and operation of City computers, related equipment and systems.
The position requires the ability to work flexible hours including evenings and/or weekends and occasional work outside normal business hours.
Job related duties require a high school diploma or GED with an associates degree in computer science preferred.
Performance is evaluated by the Technology Manager through review of the level of knowledge of information technology systems and related components, ability to effectively diagnose, repair and maintain IT systems and equipment, quality and timeliness of service provided to City employees, organizational, interpersonal and decision-making skills and ability to remain current with new technologies.
Illustrative Examples of Work -Assists the Citys Technology Manager with any and all directives as they relate to the Information Technology Department and the Citys Information Technology System.
-Assists with performing front-line technical skills including installing, troubleshooting, repairing and maintaining computers and related equipment -Updates and/or upgrades computer software programs and hardware components and prepares and maintains files and records.
-Assists with the installation, configuration, and maintenance of the Citys network, wide area network, file servers, e-mail server, application servers, and print servers including the citys desktop computer equipment networking systems.
-Troubleshoots telephone and cellular service and equipment issues and coordinates repairs as needed.
-Uses addition, subtraction, multiplication and division for computing ratios, rates, and percentages including the use descriptive statistics when necessary.
-Expected to follow established procedures and direction from Technology Manager -Interacts in a professional, effective, and courteous manner with the general public, appointed and elected officials, outside and/or third-party contractors/vendors, Department Directors and Supervisors and City employees.
-Assists with handling Information Technology Tickets, parts inventory, purchase orders and packing slips when necessary.
-Attends technical or professional classes, seminars, or conferences to improve technical or professional skills to remain abreast of current technologies.
-Reads, interprets and applies complex technical publications, manuals and related documents.
-Performs related duties as required.
