Job Description:

About the role
Hewlett Packard Enterprise is looking for a systems administration intern to join the HPC and AI Data Center Administration team.

Our administrators operate the high-performance computing and AI laboratory systems used across HPE engineering, and this intern works alongside them on the security, monitoring, and visibility side of that work.
The intern will help identify where lab systems lack expected monitoring, logging, and vulnerability scanning coverage, build repeatable reports, document hardening expectations, and improve the team's ability to track remediation work.

Over the term, the intern produces a system visibility baseline and a set of tools and documentation the team continues to use after the internship ends.
This is a strong opportunity for a student interested in Linux systems administration, cybersecurity operations, infrastructure automation, observability, or large-scale compute environments.

It is also a direct look at the day-to-day work of an HPC systems administrator, which is the career track this team hires into.

Job Responsibilities

* Assist with inventory validation for HPC and AI lab systems.

* Review monitoring, logging, and vulnerability scanning coverage across a heterogeneous system fleet.

* Identify gaps in agent deployment, log forwarding, scan inclusion, and system ownership records.

* Build scripts, reports, or dashboards that summarize security visibility.

* Document hardening expectations and practical checklists for lab systems.

* Work with system administrators to validate findings and prioritize follow-up work.

* Present project results and recommendations at the end of the internship.

Required qualifications

* Linux is the working environment for this role, not a nice-to-have.

We are looking for a candidate who is already comfortable operating without a graphical interface.

* Currently enrolled in a degree program in cybersecurity, computer science, software engineering, information systems, computer engineering, network administration, or a related technical field.
