Firefighter/EMT

General Description This description covers those personnel that are certified Firefighter and certified Emergency Medical Technician at any level; EMT, EMTI, AEMT, or EMTP.

This position performs firefighting and fire operations work in combating, extinguishing, and preventing fires; educates the public in fire, life safety, and prevention measures; provides emergency medical treatment and care to the sick and injured per his/her licensure and certification level, all federal, state, local, and department policies, procedures, standards, and protocols, medical direction, and scope of practice; maintains stations, equipment, and apparatus; responds to and handles an array of emergency and non-emergency calls involving various types of alarms, fires, motor vehicle, and pedestrian accidents, electrical equipment, weather incidents, service calls, etc.; and manages hazardous material type incidents such as odors from unknown sources, propane or natural gas leaks, gasoline and diesel spills, etc.
