Rock Climbing Instructor

The Department of Outdoor and Environmental Studies at Simpson University invites applications for an adjunct instructor for Rock Climbing.

The successful candidate should be prepared to teach an introductory rock-climbing course which fulfills the Adventure Recreation requirement as part of our Ascent general education curriculum Qualifications: · AMGA or similar certification.

· Demonstrated ability to teach the basic skills of rock climbing.

· Evidence of ability to maintain industry standards in safety for bouldering and top rope climbing.

· Experience working with a diverse student population.

· Promising research agenda that supports undergraduate education is desirable.

· Maintain a safe climbing environment at the Simpson rock wall and other climbing locations when utilized for the course.

· Communicate clearly with students regarding class expectations and logistics.

· Ensure the timely completion of assessments, grades, and other reports.

Job Title: Rock Climbing Instructor Typical Working Conditions: (Describe environment including exposure to heat, cold, fumes, chemicals, allergens, mold, etc.) Work may be performed indoors and outdoors, depending on program activities.

May be exposed to varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, wind, rain, and direct sunlight; uneven or rocky terrain; dust and allergens; and elevated heights.

Position may require working in climbing facilities and/or outdoor climbing areas.

Equipment Used: (List all manual and automated equipment used in the course of performing essential functions.) Climbing ropes, harnesses, helmets, carabiners, belay devices, climbing holds and walls, anchors, climbing shoes, chalk and chalk bags, safety equipment, and other climbing and instructional equipment.

May also use communication devices, first-aid equipment, and standard office/program equipment as needed.
