Position Overview .

The Diesel Mechanic is responsible for the inspection, diagnosis, maintenance, and repair of heavy-duty diesel-powered equipment used in aggregates, mining, and construction operations.

This position ensures equipment reliability, minimizes downtime, and supports safe and efficient production by performing preventative maintenance and repair work on a wide variety of mobile and stationary equipment.

The Diesel Mechanic must demonstrate a strong commitment to safety, quality workmanship, and teamwork while working in shop and field environments.
Key Responsibilities


* Diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and engine-related issues on heavy equipment and support vehicles.


* Perform preventive maintenance services including inspections, lubrication, fluid changes, and equipment adjustments.


* Repair and maintain diesel engines, transmissions, differentials, braking systems, steering systems, and suspension components.


* Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic and electrical systems on loaders, haul trucks, excavators, crushers, conveyors, and other aggregate production equipment.


* Conduct equipment inspections to identify safety concerns and required repairs.


* Complete work orders, maintenance records, and inspection reports accurately and timely.


* Operate diagnostic tools, testing equipment, hand tools, and power tools safely and effectively.


* Perform welding, cutting, fabrication, and component replacement as needed.


* Assist with field service repairs and emergency breakdown response.


* Maintain a clean and organized work area and ensure tools and equipment are properly maintained.


* Follow all companies, OSHA, and MSHA safety regulations and procedures.


* Communicate effectively with supervisors, operators, and other maintenance personnel regarding equipment status and repair needs.


* Support continuous improvement efforts to maximize equipment performance and reliability.


* Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Education/Experience


* High school diploma or General Education Degree GED is preferred.


* Previous related experience in the construction field.


* Minimum of 3 years experience troubleshooting and repairing diesel-powered heavy equipment preferred.
