General Purpose

The primary purpose of the Activities Assistant is to assist the Activities Director in running a creative and interactive activities program designed to meet the physical, mental, and psychosocial needs of each resident in accordance with federal, state, and facility guidelines.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities


* Assist with planning and conducting individual, small group, and large group activities


* Encourage resident participation in activities, hobbies, crafts, games, and reading


* Assist with resident outings and transportation coordination as needed


* Help develop and maintain monthly activity calendars and attendance records


* Provide in-room activities for residents who are bed-bound or isolated


* Assist with activity assessments, care plans, and quarterly progress notes


* Participate in resident care planning and discharge planning processes


* Maintain positive communication with residents, families, staff, and visitors


* Assist with Quality Assurance and activity program improvement initiatives


* Maintain the Activity Department in a clean, organized, and secure manner


* Promote a warm, engaging, and resident-centered environment

Qualifications

Education & Experience


* High school diploma or equivalent required


* One year of long-term care experience preferred

Skills & Abilities


* Strong communication and interpersonal skills


* Creative, energetic, and compassionate approach to resident care


* Ability to follow written and verbal instructions


* Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Physical Demands


* Frequent standing, walking, pushing, pulling, and reaching


* Ability to lift up to 50 lbs


* Occasional bending, kneeling, crouching, or crawling


* Ability to assist residents during activities and outings

Work Environment


* Skilled nursing facility setting


* Low to moderate noise level


* Active, resident-focused environment
