Inventory Management Intern

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

The Inventory Management Intern supports the Parts Department by assisting with inventory analysis, stock management, and data accuracy across multiple branch locations.

This role provides hands‑on experience with inventory processes, ERP systems, and cross‑department collaboration while contributing to overall parts availability and customer service levels.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:


* Assists in reviewing daily inventory reports for CAT and non‑CAT products to help maintain appropriate stock levels.


* Supports ordering and transferring parts through the ERP system under the guidance of inventory analysts.


* Helps identify potential bulk purchase opportunities and prepare information for supervisor review.


* Prepares and updates slow‑moving and non‑stock parts reports for review and potential return to CAT or vendors.


* Assists with emergency parts ordering as directed to support customer needs.


* Reviews system‑generated inventory level recommendations and flags potential adjustments for upcoming demand changes.


* Participates in monthly discussions with branch parts managers regarding future‑dated order opportunities.


* Communicate with branch personnel to help resolve inventory discrepancies and shipping issues.


* Follows up on stock receipts and assists with documenting claims for missing or damaged inventory.


* Attend branch and department meetings to learn processes and support inventory‑related questions.


* Escalate any identified inventory concerns to the supervisor.


* Assists with adding new part numbers and updating pricing in the ERP system as needed.

Unique Department Duties


* Supports analysis of improvement opportunities using Parts Excellence Metrics.


* Participates in stock‑setting review meetings with sales and service teams when appropriate.


* Provides assistance to counter personnel and parts managers on basic inventory or ERP‑related questions.

Physical Inventory & Travel Responsibilities


* Participates in scheduled physical inventory counts at various branch locations throughout the dealer territory.


* Assists with pre‑count preparation, on‑site verification, and post‑count reconciliation activities.


* Travels to assigned locations as needed; travel may include day trips and occasional overnight stays depending on distance and scheduling.

MINIMUM REQUIRMENTS

Education


* Enrolled in a college or university program, preferably pursuing a degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Operations Management, or a related field.


* Completion of at least one year of coursework is preferred.

* Interest in inventory management, data analysis, or operations.
