The Research and Development Technician will be part of a collaborative team developing new technologies related to aluminum production in electrolytic cells of various scales.

The candidate will work with a team to develop and manufacture components for use in aluminum processing, along with maintaining records of observations, results, and data from experiments.

Our team at Alcoa Technical Center (ATC), located in New Kensington, PA, consists of individuals with diverse backgrounds and expertise, including scientists, engineers, and technicians.

* Operate processing equipment, including mixers, mills, extruders, dryers and furnaces.


* Operation of cranes and fork trucks (On-site training to be provided).


* Collaborate with a team to develop new materials and processes, collect samples, and report findings.


* Complete tasks around and with equipment where fumes, dust, and chemicals exist (PPE required).


* Understand and follow safe work instructions in line with Alcoa’s policies and procedures.


* Perform work in crouching, kneeling, and stooping positions.

What you can bring to this role:


* High school diploma, GED, or trade school degree in mechanical/electrical trades.


* Candidates with experience in a manufacturing environment preferred but not required.


* Good mechanical skills, comfortable using hand tools.


* Ability to perform material handling (up to x pounds), weighing, following process steps in sequence, and documenting process data.


* Valid Driver’s License required.


* Flexible with schedule changes.

Preferred Qualifications:


* 2 years relevant work experience in a light industry environment (example: vehicle repair garages, paint and chemical production, building maintenance shops, metal work, millwork, and cabinetry work)


* 2 years relevant work experience in the testing or laboratory environment


* 2 years relevant work experience with materials processing
