JOB OVERVIEW:
Under the general guidance and direction of the Recreation Manager or Night Supervisor, performs a variety of duties involved in training basketball officials for competition games at county facilities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Train officials on rules, mechanics, and management of the game.
Develop and implement training programs and curriculum, on-court training, and guidance for officials to enhance their performance and consistency.
Provide feedback and evaluations for new and existing referees during training and games.
Assess, identify, and address areas where officials require more learning, improvement, and/or further training to meet individual and group needs.
Responsible for ensuring officials are knowledgeable, consistent, and confident in their calls, contributing to fair and well-managed games.
Maintain positive and inclusive training environment by creating a supportive atmosphere where officials feel comfortable learning, developing their skills, and asking questions.
Stay updated on rules, mechanics, and certification.
Promote professionalism, sportsmanship, ethical conduct, fair play, and respectful interactions amongst officials, scorekeepers, players, coaches, and spectators.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
Education: No specific education requirements.
Experience: Three years of experience as a basketball official.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSA):
Knowledge of: basketball rules, regulations, and procedures is required.
Skills and Abilities: excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
The ability to effectively explain concepts and provide constructive feedback to trainees and existing officials.
Ability to motivate officials while creating a positive and encouraging learning environment to help officials develop their skills.
Ability to analyze situations, identify areas for improvement, and develop solutions.
Ability to solve problems, stay calm under pressure, and handle high pressure situations is important.
YOUR SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS :
Maintain a current UHSAA certification throughout duration of employment as a trainer.
Must possess a valid Utah Driver's License and have a good driving record.
Must have a telephone.
Must be willing to work evenings.
Due to the nature of this position, the successful candidate may be required to complete a pre-employment background check prior to starting the position.
