Recreation Coordinator - Senior Center
The Recreation Coordinator for the Senior Center is responsible for the organization, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of recreation programs for older adults.
Acts as the Senior Services Supervisor in their absence and has both a program coordination and facility management function.
TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONS:
KNOWLEDGE: Proficient to expert level of knowledge in the provision of services and coordination of programs for older adults; working knowledge of Senior Center activities, service provision, and operation.
Knowledge of and ability to apply basic analytical, math, and accounting skills.
Working knowledge of computers and modern office practices and procedures; proficient knowledge of word processing and various software packages related to the provision of services.
SKILLS: Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, in order to effectively communicate with and establish good working relationships with subordinates, coworkers, public officials, citizens and other governmental or quasi-public entities.
Problem solving skills in order to analyze complex problems and implement appropriate corrective actions.
ABILITIES: Comprehend, develop, and articulate conceptual ideas or strategies and implement such ideas or strategies.
Flexible and able to handle multiple tasks and conflicting priorities; work under and adhere to deadlines, even under stressful or difficult situations.
Effectively foster relationships with the public and handle stressful situations; manage projects by developing project objectives, methodology, deadlines, and evaluation mechanisms.
Interact with a broad range of people to effectively accomplish assigned tasks or projects; follow both verbal and written instructions, and the ability to issue clear and concise verbal and/or written instructions to consumers, contractors, volunteers and other employees and report operations verbally or in written form.
Physically able to operate a variety of computer and office equipment as well as work with medical and program equipment successfully in order to fulfill the essential functions of this position.
TRAINING: Bachelor's degree in Recreation or in related field with an emphasis on older adults.
EXPERIENCE: Five (5) years of increasingly responsible professional, technical experience directly in field.
Experience must include working with the older adult population, or any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides evidence that the applicant possesses the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
May be required to operate a City vehicle and 15 passenger bus.
