2026 Summer Mechanical Design Engineering Rotational Intern

For this U.S.

based position, the expected compensation range is $22 - $26 per hour.

In addition, this position is eligible for overtime pay and recognition programs.

The compensation rate for this position is for candidates located within the United States.

Individual pay is determined by several factors including knowledge, job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

Schneider Electric is seeking to hire a 2026 Summer Mechanical Design Engineer Intern within our Energy and Sustainability Services Division.

This position will be a rotational program internship, giving an opportunity to work in up to 2 of the specified areas below.


* Mechanical & Electrical Engineering


* Energy Engineering


* Building Automation & Controls Engineering


* Client Services

What do you get to do in this position?

This Engineering Intern position will be responsible for performing entry-level energy, mechanical, electrical and/or controls engineering tasks associated with identifying and improving the energy efficiency and operations of building systems.

Although rotational, this position will have a focus in our Mechanical, Plumbing, and Electrical group.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Mechanical and Electrical Engineering


* Perform on-site investigation of mechanical, plumbing and electrical (MEP) systems to identify opportunities for energy savings, enhanced system operation and increased occupant comfort.


* Assist in the design of upgrades to HVAC and electrical systems.

Systems may include HVAC unitary systems, air distribution, chilled water, heating water, steam, plumbing, natural gas and electrical power distribution.


* Design tasks may include writing descriptions of proposed energy conservation measures, performing calculations, selecting and scheduling mechanical and electrical equipment and performing system layouts.


* Coordinate the MEP scope of work with other project development team members including energy and controls engineers, project development managers, and sales professionals.

Qualifications:

LOCATION:


* Must be able to work in the Costa Mesa, CA office for the duration of the internship with no company provided relocation or living stipend

EDUCATION:


* Rising Senior level status in relevant engineering degree program.

SKILLS & ABILITIES:


* Understanding of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, and energy analysis.


* Experience in HVAC design software, such as Bluebeam AutoCAD, or HVAC-specific simulation tools strongly preferred
