Position Overview
The School Crossing Guard is responsible for ensuring the safe passage of pedestrians, particularly children, across streets and intersections, especially before and after school hours.

They achieve this by directing traffic, monitoring for potential hazards, and educating pedestrians on traffic safety.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


* School Crossing Guards assess traffic flow, halt vehicles to create safe crossing gaps, and guide pedestrians across the street.


* Direct traffic, monitoring for potential hazards, and educating pedestrians on traffic safety


* Inform pedestrians, especially children, about traffic rules and safe crossing practices.


* Vigilant for unsafe driving behaviors, like speeding, and potential hazards like construction or obstructed crosswalks.


* Communicate clearly with drivers and pedestrians, using hand signals and other tools to direct traffic and ensure safety.


* Document incidents, like traffic violations or unsafe pedestrian behavior.


* Work outdoors in various weather conditions, necessitating physical stamina and adaptability.


* Interact with children, parents, and the wider community, promoting safe practices and fostering a positive environment.


* Adhere to specific crossing guard protocols, which may include specific steps for initiating and completing a crossing, as well as using safety equipment like stop signs and vests.


* Respond to unexpected situations, such as accidents or sudden traffic changes, remaining calm and taking appropriate action.


* Consistent presence at designated crossing locations is crucial for ensuring pedestrian safety.
