Engineer III - Electrical

Minnesota Power is looking for a talented Electrical Engineer III to join its Substation Project Engineering team.

This position will play an important role in the Physical engineering, planning, design, and execution of medium to high-voltage substation projects.

This position requires a deep understanding of substation physical design, equipment integration, and utility standards to lead the design of greenfield and brownfield projects.

You will lead design efforts, coordinate with cross-functional teams, and ensure that all physical aspects of substation projects meet technical, safety, and regulatory requirements.

RESPONSIBILITIES:


* Act as staff advisor and technical consultant within and outside assigned department and organization in area of expertise; reviews and may sign off as subject matter expert for others' work.


* Provides technical support and direction for internal staff, consultants or vendors to ensure application of sound engineering practices in a cost-effective manner to enhance customer operations, maintain reliability of systems and safety for MP employees and the public.


* Understanding of local, state and industry codes and standards that apply to substation design, for example NEC, NESC, IEEE, ANSI.


* Coordinates with stakeholders to develop project scope, schedule, general arrangement, and estimates for projects.


* Performs administrative work relating to projects, procurement and assignments.


* In accordance with company and project standards, design substation layout and grounding, and specify equipment (circuit breakers, transformers, disconnect switches, conduit, conductors, buswork, grounding, etc) for medium and high voltage electrical substations.


* Work with construction managers, field staff and other stakeholders to develop and implement project execution strategies.


* Closeout projects by completing as-built drawings and other project closeout tasks.


* Perform site visits for field verifications and support at medium and high voltage substations.
