Lab Technician - Chemistry and Chemical Biology
Job Description
The Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology at Stevens Institute of Technology is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Part Time Laboratory Technician to support a dynamic research environment focused on nanoparticle synthesis and characterization.
This role involves hands-on work in a chemical biology lab, contributing to cutting-edge scientific studies while ensuring day-to-day lab operations run smoothly.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong technical skills, meticulous documentation practices, and a collaborative mindset.
* Nanoparticle Synthesis and Characterization
+ Perform chemical synthesis of nanoparticles using established protocols or by optimizing new formulations.
+ Characterize nanoparticles using a range of analytical instruments such as Dynamic Light Scattering (DLS), Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), UV-Vis spectroscopy.
+ Analyze and interpret data to assess particle size, morphology, surface charge, and stability
* Data Management and Documentation
+ Maintain accurate and detailed records of experimental procedures, observations, and results in lab notebooks and digital databases.
+ Prepare technical reports and summaries for internal use and publication support.
* Laboratory Maintenance and Coordination
+ Ensure proper maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment.
+ Monitor inventory and order supplies as needed to support ongoing experiments.
+ Follow safety protocols and contribute to maintaining a clean, organized, and compliant lab environment.
* Team Collaboration and Communication
+ Participate in regular lab meetings to discuss progress, troubleshoot issues, and plan future experiments.
+ Communicate findings and updates clearly with colleagues and the Principal Investigator (PI).
+ Assist in training new lab members or interns on standard operating procedures and safety practices
Required Knowledge, Skills, Education, and Experience:
* Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or Chemical Biology.
* Experience with the synthesis and characterization of nanoparticles.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
* Excellent collaboration skills and ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
* Demonstrated flexibility and adaptability within a dynamic and evolving team structure.

Compensation Range
In compliance with the New Jersey Wage Transparency Act, the hourly base range for this position is $18.00 - $20.00.
This range represents the University’s good faith estimate of possible compensation at the time of posting.
