Lead Thin Film Coating Technician - Midnight Shift

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

Thin Film Coating Operations


* Program coating equipment with design specifications based on scheduled production plans.


* Operate automated and manual evaporation systems, ensuring accurate layer endpoints.


* Analyze coating runs using observational and deductive skills to document performance data.


* Simultaneously manage two high-volume coating chambers and support peer operations.


* Communicate production updates during daily quality meetings.


* Operate and interpret results from characterization and test equipment.


* Adjust production schedules to meet dynamic requirements

Chamber Setup and Calibration


* Assess design parameters and prepare appropriate evaporation materials.


* Inspect and replace worn/dirty components to ensure optimal chamber functionality.


* Perform calibration runs and analyze data to confirm proper setup and product quality.


* Utilize precision instrumentation to validate coating process alignment.


* Document setup configurations and run-specific data in system logs.


* Ensure accountability for product quality and equipment performance.

General Duties


* Support other coating processes including cleaning, sandblasting, and material prep.


* Maintain inventory and be able to perform light maintenance independently.


* Execute intermediate test procedures between runs for performance verification.


* Audit personal and team procedures for consistency and compliance.


* Train new employees following established programs; perform ongoing assessments.


* Provide timely, accurate support to engineering teams.


* Lead discussions in daily quality and performance meetings.


* Participate in employee evaluations in collaboration with supervisors.

Education & Experience


* High school diploma required; strong background in mathematics and/or science preferred.


* Bachelor's degree or technical certification preferred.


* Experience level: Advanced (typically 8+ years), but we value demonstrated impact over tenure.


* Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
