Counsel - Litigation
This is a unique opportunity to join a dynamic in-house litigation team responsible for managing Cigna and Evernorth's healthcare, commercial and corporate litigation portfolio.
This is a great development opportunity for a junior litigator - to apply their skills to help Cigna and Evernorth accelerate a new, more sustainable model of health care on a global scale as one integrated, total health and well-being company.
This Counsel position is an individual contributor role that reports to the Associate Chief Counsel of Litigation.
This role is a great fit for a strategic self-starter and creative thinker who likes to own challenging projects end-to-end, who thrives in a fast-paced environment, and who is energized by working collaboratively to deliver the best practical solution to an issue.
As a member of the Litigation team, an ideal candidate will be expected to:
* Direct and manage all aspects of a varied litigation portfolio, including investigation, pleadings and discovery through the pre-trial, trial, settlement and appeal processes;
* Supervise and drive responses to third party subpoenas and requests for information issued by regulators, other government entities, and civil litigants;
* Effectively direct and manage outside counsel;
* Effectively manage litigation budgets;
* Work collaboratively within the Legal Department (including Compliance, Government Affairs and Communications colleagues), as well as business stakeholders;
* Provide proactive, solution-oriented advice and counseling to support and protect business goals and objectives in connection with pre-litigation disputes;
* Employ highly polished and effective communication, listening, and writing skills, with a focus on interaction with and reporting to senior managers and executive leadership within a global and matrixed organization; and
* Participate in and contribute positively to the Cigna Legal community.
QUALIFICATIONS:
* J.D.
degree and active Bar membership;
* Minimum of 3-5 years of litigation experience at a top firm, with the federal government, and/or in-house, preferably in field of healthcare litigation;
* Experience representing healthcare companies is a plus;
* Strong written and oral communication skills;
* Ability to present complex legal issues to non-lawyers;
* Demonstrated sound judgment and the ability to maneuver through barriers and facilitate solutions;
* Team focus;
* Learning agility and intellectual curiosity; and
* This role is Hybrid, three days in an office is required.
* Willingness to take on difficult projects.
* Hybrid- this role requires someone to be in office 3 days a week.
