DESCRIPTION

Michael Baker International is hiring a Senior Bridge Engineer (Civil Engineer III) for our Richmond, VA OR Virginia Beach, VA office.

The successful candidate will have the upward mobility to develop into a Technical or Project Manager, ensuring that their career path is both ambitious and rewarding.


* Performing and managing structure tasks on conventional and complex multi-discipline projects from design through construction


* Performing and managing structure load ratings on conventional and complex bridges using hand calculations through finite element methods


* Leading, performing, and checking bridge and structure designs to ensure accuracy with design codes and client requirements


* Coordinating and communicating with other fields effectively


* Developing and adhering to scope, schedule, and budget for structure tasks


* Supporting bridge and structure proposal development through strong technical writing


* Developing and implementing creative and innovative cost-saving modifications to conventional designs through construction/value engineering opportunities


* Crafting and teaching bridge design training courses and reference manuals


* Assisting Project Managers in ensuring that task and project schedules and budgets are met


* Preparing scope of work and labor hour requirements for proposals


* Assisting with marketing/business development initiatives

PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS


* Bachelor's in Civil or Structural Engineering; Master's degree is highly preferred


* 20+ years of experience in structural engineering


* Professional Engineer (PE) licensed in the Commonwealth of Virginia or ability to acquire within six (6) months


* Strong all-around theoretical knowledge of structural engineering principles


* Experience with AASHTO LRFD, AISC, ACI and other North American design codes


* Experience with the design of multiple bridge types in concrete and steel, and knowledge of staged construction analysis


* Solid background and understanding of Structural engineering software packages like: MDX, Leap Concrete Connect, MIDAS, FB Pier, etc.
