Summer 2025 Engineering Internship

Overview

The Engineering internship will consist of 10 – 12 weeks of fulltime engineering work in various departments including Planning, Operations, Regulatory, and Compliance.  Each intern will be assigned a department for the duration of the internship; however, rotations will occur as needed.  The interns will be compensated and housing will be provided if needed for the duration of the internship.  Teaming activities may be scheduled after hours throughout the internship.  Each intern will deliver a presentation at the end of their internship to demonstrate lessons learned and knowledge gained. 

 Essential Functions
1.

Engineering Concepts and Tools:
The Engineer Intern is expected to be competent with the administrative and communication tools for word processing, spread sheet development, time keeping, etc.  The incumbent is expected to develop fundamental understanding of transmission system concept and gain knowledge of software associated with area of responsibility.
2.

Engineering Responsibilities:
As directed by the lead engineer or supervisor, the Engineer Intern should be prepared to enthusiastically complete specific assignments directed by ad hoc stakeholder/committees, transmission planning services, tariff studies or network modeling and engineering data coordination efforts.
3.

Teamwork and Leadership Skills:
The Engineer Inter should provide basic technical support to help project groups meet aggressive time schedules. 
4.

SPP Culture and Core Values:
SPP employees are expected to embrace and promote the SPP Culture, Mission and Core Values in attitude toward stakeholder relationships, current work assignments as well as long term goals and strategic initiative of the organization.  The Engineer Intern should incorporate a fundamental working understanding of the SPP Culture Drivers, Mission and Core Values and apply this directly to all engineering assignments and any SPP related effort, not necessarily limited to engineering.

Requirements


* A college student entering their Sr.

year working toward a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited university.

Degree should be in a calculus-based engineering field such as: Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Systems Engineering
