Summer 2025 Market Monitoring Intern

Overview

The Market Monitor internship will consist of 10 – 12 weeks of fulltime market monitoring work in the Southwest Power Pool independent Market Monitoring Unit.  Teaming activities may be scheduled after hours throughout the internship.  The intern will deliver a presentation at the end of their internship to demonstrate lessons learned and knowledge gained. 

Essential Functions


* Market Concepts and Tools:
The market monitoring intern is expected to be competent with the administrative and communication tools for word processing, spread sheet development, time keeping, etc.  The intern is expected to develop fundamental understanding of electricity markets and gain knowledge of software (SAS, SQL, Tableau) associated with area of responsibility.


* Market Monitoring Responsibilities:
As directed by a lead market monitor or manager, the intern should be prepared to enthusiastically complete specific assignments including market power studies, behavior of specific power plants, potential market rule changes, and financial analysis of market performance on a daily, monthly, and quarterly basis.


* Teamwork and Leadership Skills:
The intern should provide basic technical support to help project groups meet aggressive time schedules.

Education Requirements:


* A college student entering their Jr.

or Sr.

year working toward a Bachelor’s degree in economics, math, computer science, engineering or other related field.


* 3.0 GPA or above

Work Environment:

This job operates in a professional office environment.
