Permit Technician Supervisor

ABOUT THE POSITION

The County of Riverside's Transportation and Land Management Agency has an opportunity for a Permit Technician Supervisor.

This is a working title and the classification for this position is Supervising Building Inspector .

The Permit Technician Supervisor will supervise, review, and participate in the work of permit technician staff responsible for review of residential, commercial, and industrial building plans and drawings for conformance with applicable state and local codes and regulations.

They will also assist the Building Division's public counter activities, permit tracking program, and issuance of building permits as well as maintain quality control for the automated permit tracking system.

The County of Riverside's Transportation and Land Management Agency (TLMA ) is the umbrella agency for multiple county departments, as well as a few distinct TLMA Agency Divisions / departments.

The departments include: the Transportation, Planning, Building and Safety, and Code Enforcement Departments, the Riverside County Airport Land Use Commission (ALUC), the Aviation Division, and TLMA Agency Administration.

The portfolio's departments are focused on infrastructure, facilities, and critical services, which are essential to the quality of life, safety, well-being, and public health of Riverside County residents.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Supervises and trains the work performance of assigned Building and Safety permit tech staff; handles performance issues and participates in the selection of new employees; prepares and conducts performance evaluations; and ensures that staff technical training is current.

Reviews plan checking and permit issuance services; identifies resource needs; reviews need with appropriate management staff; allocates resources accordingly.

Provides interpretation and decisions on applicable codes, rules, regulations, and technical problems of enforcement.

Responds to the more difficult questions and concerns from the general public, contractors, vendors, and outside agencies; provides information as is appropriate and resolves public service or operational complaints; establishes and maintains a customer service orientation within the division.

Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Course work directly related to the knowledge and abilities listed below may be substituted for up to two years of experience on the basis of 45 quarter units or 30 semester units equaling one year of full-time experience.
