Office on Aging Meal Program Assistant

ABOUT THE POSITION

The County of Riverside's Office on Aging-Title III division seeks a Bilingual-Spanish Office on Aging Meal Program Assistant for the Blythe location.

The incumbent will assists with the preparation, delivery and service of the Senior Nutrition Meals.

Program duties include driving the home delivered lunch route; preparing food for service; shopping for supplies, as needed; registering and checking-in seniors, collect program income; distribute and collect senior participant intake forms; interacts with senior and program participants in a positive manner; assist with set up and clean up nutrition and meal programs, Outreach and some clerical duties as assigned.

The individual in this role should have the capacity to drive extended hours and transport meals to various community centers in the Blythe area.

This position will necessitate strong customer service abilities and the capability to carry meal bags.

The individual must be comfortable working in extreme weather conditions, particularly during the hot months in Blythe.

Possibly work some evenings and weekends.
Hours are Monday- Friday 6:00am- 3:30pm

Bilingual-Spanish is required.
Food handlers card can be obtained once in the position.

Office on Aging , one of 52 County departments, is authorized by the Older Americans Act and the Older Californians Act.

The department is charged with developing a system of care that offers safety net services for vulnerable older persons and adults with disabilities.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES
• Deliver prepared meals to eligible homebound senior citizens; deliver meals to designated locations and distribute congregate meals in the community center.

• Load and unload meals and inventory in and out of vehicle using appropriate safety precautions when lifting and bending within department policies and procedures.

• Review established delivery route schedules to determine if alternate routes may be necessary for maximum efficiency; adjust delivery routing and schedules in real time when necessary to accommodate any unforeseen circumstances.

• Monitor the temperature of home delivered meals and ensure meals remain within the prescribed limits during transportation and delivery.

• Perform a daily inspection of vehicle as prescribed in departmental vehicle operational procedures for purposes of monitoring safety and upkeep standards, and report concerns and/or discrepancies to a supervisor; under supervision monitor vehicle maintenance schedules and make vehicle available for routine maintenance performed by Fleet Services.

• Maintain a clean vehicle inside and outside; assist with maintaining required levels of gas, oil, and water for the safe operation of vehicle in accordance with departmental vehicle operations procedures.
