Engineering Aide/Engineering Technician I/II

ABOUT THE POSITION

The Riverside County Flood Control and Water Conservation District is seeking an Engineering Aide, Technician I, or Technician II to support the Developer Right of Way Services Section.

The level at which the position will be filled is at the Department's discretion and is based on candidate qualifications.

The position will perform sub-professional land survey work under the direction of the Supervising Land Surveyor.

The Engineering Aide/Technician will utilize Autodesk Software to assist in preparing various Right of Way documents, research Riverside County Land Records, learn the legal aspects of land surveying and plat maps while using basic surveying principals, rules, regulations, as outlined in the California Land Surveyors Act, Subdivision Map Act, and Riverside County Ordinances.

The District is seeking a positive self-motivated applicant eager to learn with the ability to work in a team environment with strong interpersonal skills while working with the public, engineers and surveying professionals.

Competitive candidates will have sub-professional land survey experience as it pertains to drafting and legal aspects or college courses in land surveying or closely related subjects such as computer aided drafting (CAD) or Geographic Information Systems (GIS).

Candidates with technical skills in Autodesk Products, Bentley Products, Bluebeam, ArcMap and those that possess a valid certificate as a Land Surveyor in Training (LSIT) issued by the California State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, and Geologists are highly preferred.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Engineering Aide:
• Act as rear chain or rod worker on a field survey crew, including using tapes and chains in make horizontal and vertical measurements, make simple survey notes, set monuments, clear brush, and stock trucks.

• Make traffic counts, census surveys and sign inspections, including collecting and recording data and making diagrams of intersections and accident scenes; collect materials samples, and make and keep notes and records of routine laboratory tests such as relative compaction, sand equivalent, specific gravity, grading analysis, and environmental analysis.

• Set up and maintain hydrologic metering and recording equipment, and collect groundwater samples for chemical analysis; make simple tracings, diagrams and drawings.

• Learn to tabulate and plot field survey data and to read, interpret and prepare contour and land maps; index and file records.

• Provide routine information to the public.
