Horticulture Technician II

Salary Range: $23.70 - $30.82 Hourly

Hiring Range: $23.70 - $23.71 Hourly

Job Summary:

This position provides for the maintenance of all public landscape beds throughout the community that includes the design, installation and maintenance of annual floral beds.

 The work is accomplished by trash pickup, leaf cleanup, mulching, planting, weeding, watering, fertilizing and pruning or rejuvenating shrubs, grasses or trees.

 The position is also responsible for the minor repair and maintenance of irrigation systems in the landscape beds and manages the maintenance of vehicles, water pumps, tillers, weed-eaters, hedge trimmers and leaf blowers.

 Duties will also include managing municipal greenhouse operations and supervising seasonal staff.

The position is open until filled.

Experience, Knowledge, Skills:

Minimum Requirements


* Three (3)+ years progressive horticultural experience. 


* Valid driver’s license and good driving record.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities


* Knowledge of horticultural maintenance, planting and pruning techniques.


* Knowledge of tree planting equipment and planting techniques.


* Knowledge of common vegetation issues, diseases, environmental concerns, treatments and mitigation.


* Experience necessary to supervise and train staff to assist in the safe operation of equipment and maintenance of areas of responsibility.


* Adequate experience in traffic control situations, ability to assess traffic control needs and stage traffic control devices in a standardized manner.


* Demonstrated ability to successfully acquire utility locates through the Utility Notification Center of Colorado (811).


* Collaboration skills, including the ability to work with others from different areas and backgrounds to reach a common goal. 


* Computer skills, including the ability to utilize Microsoft Office programs (i.e.

Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.) and learn and experiment with new software and systems.


* Interpersonal skills, including the ability to facilitate interaction, communication, and teamwork between others.


* Oral, written, and listening communication skills, including the ability to accurately interpret what others are saying and convey messages, information, concepts, and details accurately and clearly.
