Import Specialist & Dispatch

Job Title:  Import Specialist & Dispatch 
Job Location: Houston, Texas - IAH

We have an exciting opportunity for an IMPORT SPECIALIST & DISPATCH to manage multiple levels of customer interaction and serve as a single point of contact.

This position will be based at our location in Houston, TX. 

Key Responsibilities:



* Monitor Work Distribution for assigned files for dispatch per best practice


* Prioritize dispatches based on customer requirements & shipment specifics


* Generate delivery orders per best practice


* Review customer’s available credit to identify shipment requirement Cash on Delivery, per best practice


* Determine appropriate delivery carriers based on price (Exworks) or customer requirements


* Identify underperforming carriers and suggest alternates


* Ensure appropriate docs are provided (e.g.

HazMat)


* Pre-bill appropriate delivery charges within 24 hours of POD; update shipment notes with same per best practice


* Research shipment-specific delivery issues and carrier failures, facilitate corrective action and provide to leadership


* Post-dispatch follows up procedures (including confirmation of pickup by trucker and follow-through to Proof of Delivery (POD within 24 hours of expected delivery time), per best practice


* Special projects under the department manager’s guidance


* Provide guidance to other DHL colleagues on required information / documentation


* Communicate status updates as outlined in policy and procedure


* Review department specific reporting and adjust processes according to data


* Monitor Work Distribution or email box for assigned files and resolve issues-including pending release tab


* Respond to all email and phone communications from internal and external customers


* Update customer notes and customer work instructions


* Escalate all shipments that have arrived or arriving in 24 hours


* Ensure appropriate documents are provided to necessary parties once obtained


* Maintain positive relationships with internal and external customer


* Assignments require thorough knowledge of:


* DHL’s import manual’s best practices


* INCO Terms


* Document Recognition: Master/House Bill, Commercial Invoice, Packing List, Arrival Notice, etc


* IOR Determination


* Port of Entry (Bonded vs.

First Port)


* Internal interactions are typically department wide and up to supervisor level outside of department (i.e.

other DGF colleagues)

Skills / Requirements:



* Minimum 2 years' experience in Imports, Dispatch and Freight Forwarding


* Exceptional customer service skills


* Detail oriented and strong follow-up skills


* Proficient with Microsoft office (Word, Excel, Outlook)


* Readily learns and applies new information/concepts in area of practice


* Under limited supervision, relies on experience and exercises independent judgment to determine best approach...
