Project Engineer - Plastics

The Project Engineer is responsible for managing projects as part of the Asset Management Team.  These projects are primarily the design, installation and modification of capital equipment and facilities, including the oversight and direction of internal and external resources.  This position will have responsibility in all of ConMet’s global manufacturing sites, with manufacturing processes that include Plastic Molding, Machining, Assembly and Material Handling.

This role requires working at ConMet's corporate headquarters in Vancouver, Washington or out of the Canton, NC plastics manufacturing facility. 

Key Duties 


* Manage the definition, quoting, procurement and commissioning of manufacturing equipment.


* Provide support to the product design effort: Plastic components and assemblies.



* Provide input to DFM/DFA processes to ensure best-practice and lean manufacturing concepts are utilized in the design and implementation of manufacturing equipment.


* Maintain project timelines and deliverables to support internal and external customers.



* Strong collaboration with local plant management and technical staff is necessary.



* Ability and willingness to travel up to 30% of the time and work extended hours based on customer demand and production schedule.



* Support all APQP phase deliverables in support of manufacturing equipment development for new or modified manufacturing processes.


* Support all downstream aspects of manufacturing processes from our production facilities though our end customer final assembly.

Required Qualifications 


* Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Industrial or Manufacturing Engineering.


* Minimum 3 years of experience in a production environment.


* Strong Project Management skills – PMI or PMBOK certification is a plus.


* Experience in lean manufacturing, setup reduction, capital procurement, automation, statistical process control, project management, process development, and material flow


* Working knowledge of AutoCAD/and ProE, or similar CAD systems.


* Working knowledge of GD&T and the use of attribute gage systems.


* Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects simultaneously.


* Effective communication skills with all team members both internal and external.


* Strong computer skills in MS Office.


* Metrology capabilities with basic instruments, such as micrometer, comparator, et al.

Preferred:


* Manufacturing process knowledge including plastic molding, machining, robotic and manual material handling, and various assembly methods along with general understanding of process flow, gages, in-process verification and error proofing.


* Knowledge of SAP or similar ERP systems. 


* Ability and experience in establishing and maintaining working relationships with equipment vendors, integrators and suppliers. 


* Ability to speak Spanish is a significant plus.
