Summer Community Advisor (SCA) at UPenn

Position Summary

The Summer Community Advisor (SCA) will share the responsibility of making each student, conference, and program participant feel welcome on Penn’s campus.

The Community Advisor acts as a university liaison and campus resource for approximately 30-60 students residing in on-campus housing during the summer months.

This position requires administrative, programming, and judicial duties pertaining to your residents.

The Summer Community Advisor reports to the Summer Residential Director.

This position serves in the weekly duty rotation for after-hours student issues.

This is a live-in position, and free on-campus housing is provided.

The Summer Community Advisor's required duties include but are not limited to establishing and maintaining relationships with residents by meeting on a weekly basis.

Be sensitive and aware of potential issues and how to address them in a supportive manner.

Create programming that supports the needs of your residents.

Respond to residents’ academic, social, and personal concerns/questions in a timely manner.

Serve as an advocate for the student’s needs and concerns.

Balance the student voice with the institutional needs.

Position Scope


* Staff will arrive on Monday, June 20, 2024, for check-in at the University of Pennsylvania.

The BOLD Summers and UPenn Hospitality Services team delivers orientation, training, and equipping.

Staff are required to stay for the duration of the program and will conclude their role on August 17.


* Staff must participate in the staff training, which will take place from May 22 through May 24.


* Staff will be provided with a list of "high-value dates" and will be expected to be available.


* Summer students arrive on Monday, May 27, 2024, and depart on Saturday, August 10.

Students assigned to the SCA may vary by week.

Requirements

A high school diploma and prior experience as a Residential Advisor (RA) is required, along with a letter of recommendation from the Graduate Advisor (GA) or House Dean you reported to.

Must be in good academic and disciplinary standing.

Must possess excellent leadership skills and the ability to adapt well to unexpected situations.

Must take direction well and promote a team atmosphere; should possess excellent attention to detail and a strong work ethic.
