Code Compliance Inspector I - Community Development

Salary Range:      $28.13 - $37.98 Hourly

Hiring Range:      $28.13 - $31.15 Hourly

Job Summary:

The City of Greeley is seeking a Code Compliance Inspector I to join the Code Compliance Division as part of the Community Development Department.  The Code Inspector will report to the Code Compliance Manager and will primarily perform inspections and checks for compliance of various City codes, issue warnings and/or Notices of Violation, and follows up to verify compliance has been achieved.  The successful candidate will communicate with the public, prepare information related to cases including taking photographs, preparing documentation, and keeping accurate records.  The Code Inspector will testify at Administrative Hearings related to enforcement cases, and will respond to and investigate odor complaints, which may include after-hours and weekend work.  The Code Inspector may participate in Saturday inspections on a rotational basis with the other Code Inspectors.

Experience, Knowledge, Skills:

Minimum Requirements


* Current and valid driver’s license.


* High school diploma or equivalent.


* Minimum of one (1) year of experience with regulatory code enforcement.


* Minimum of one (1) year of experience with computer database applications.


* Ability to obtain state certification for odor detection within six (6) months of hire.


* Ability to obtain Colorado Association of Code Enforcement Basic Certification within two (2) years of hire.


* A combination of related education, experience, certifications, and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job may be considered by the hiring authority.

Preferred


* Associate degree or higher from an accredited college or university in a related field.


* Bilingual in English/Spanish proficient enough to speak and write is preferred.


* Minimum of three (3) years of demonstrated experience working with the public under adverse conditions indicating good interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.


* Knowledge of City zoning and sanitation codes and ordinances preferred.


* Two (2) to three (3) years of experience with regulatory code enforcement preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities


* Ability to read and interpret codes and other legal documents and to enforce City and department regulations and policies.


* Ability to selectively extract, verify, and compile data and/or operate specialized equipment to produce results.


* Knowledge of customer service principles and best practices, including customer needs assessments, meeting quality service standards, and evaluating customer satisfaction.


* Customer service skills, including the ability to actively listen, address customer needs, defuse tense situations, and maintain an open, flexible, and friendly demeanor.


* Knowledge of the business and organizational structure of Colorado municipalities.
