Casting Operator

Job Summary: The Casting Operator works in the Refining Department and is responsible for safely and efficiently casting refined lead into finished products.

Duties include preparing molds, operating pumping equipment, drossing, scraping, stacking, and banding lead while maintaining product quality and following all safety, environmental, and operational procedures.

Essential Job Duties / Responsibilities: • Set up, operate, and break down all pumping equipment used in casting operations.

• Prepare molds and casting equipment for pouring molten lead.

• Pour molten lead into molds to produce finished lead products.

• Perform drossing operations to remove impurities during the casting process.

• Scrape, stack, and band finished lead products for storage or shipment.

• Set pins and knock out pins to remove finished blocks from molds.

• Monitor casting operations to ensure proper flow, quality, and efficiency.

• Maintain 5S/6S standards by keeping the work area clean and organized daily.

• Curtail waste and promote efficient use of materials during all operations.

Assist with general material handling and cleanup within the casting area Perform routine inspections and ensure equipment is functioning properly.

• Report any equipment malfunctions or safety concerns to supervision.

• Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by management to support operational needs and meet business demands.

Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: • Knowledge of casting processes and molten lead handling.

• Knowledge of drossing, scraping, stacking, and banding procedures.

• Ability to safely operate or learn to operate equipment such as forklifts and backhoes.

• Understanding of environmental rules and regulations and ability to follow them.

• Knowledge of safety procedures, including Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and emergency/evacuation protocols.

• Working knowledge of ISO standards and quality practices.

• Ability to recognize equipment malfunctions and safety hazards.

• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and operational procedures.

• Strong attention to detail to ensure high-quality product output.

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

• Good time management skills and ability to meet production demands.

• Demonstrated reliability, dependability, and strong work ethic.

Physical Requirements / Work Environment: • Work performed in a heavy industrial environment with exposure to extreme heat, dust, noise, and molten materials.

• Must be able to lift up to 80 pounds to waist level.

• Frequent standing, walking, bending, twisting, stooping, and reaching.

• Must be able to climb stairs and ladders.

• Must be able to use a shovel at various levels and angles.

• Ability to perform physically demanding labor throughout the shift.
