Garage Mechanic

The Garage Mechanic is responsible for the inspection, repair, maintenance, and troubleshooting of various types of heavy equipment, fleet vehicles and support equipment.

This position helps with keeping 5E SVM's vehicles safe to operate, and maintains accurate inspection and maintenance records.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES: 1.

Maintain 5E SVM's vehicles to the California Highway Patrol (CHP) standards in order to pass inspection and be considered safe to operate on the public roads.

2.

Maintain heavy equipment, fleet, and support equipment such as CAT, Loader, Dozer, Air Compressor, etc.

to ensure equipment efficiency and safety.

3.

Keep accurate inspection and repair records for both the Department of Transportation (DOT) and CHP for them to review at their request.

4.

Perform smoke opacity testing of diesel engines.

5.

Perform yearly inspections on DOT and Hazmat vehicles.

Be responsible for adhering to SSHE policies, procedures and programs, regulations, and company directives, and actively participate in preventing unsafe acts.

· Understand the primary SSHE hazards and risks in the work area and the safeguards in place to manage those hazards and risks.

· Maintain an awareness of SSHE requirements for the specific work area.

· Immediately report all SSHE issues to the supervisor.

· Provide requested information during SSHE internal and external audits.
