Labor & Delivery OB Technician

Under the direction of the Nursing Director and Labor & Delivery Charge Nurse, the OB Technician supports surgical procedures and nonsurgical deliveries.

This role prepares operating rooms, maintains instruments and supplies, and assists providers and nursing staff in delivering safe, compassionate care within facility policies and the positions scope of practice.

Key Responsibilities Prepare operating rooms, instruments, sutures, supplies, and equipment for scheduled procedures.

Assist with patient positioning, surgical preparation, and draping as directed.

Set up and maintain sterile instrument tables; pass instruments and supplies during procedures.

Anticipate the needs of surgeons, providers, and the care team during surgical procedures and nonsurgical deliveries.

Assist with instrument, sponge, and needle counts; promptly report and help resolve discrepancies according to hospital procedures.

Maintain sterile technique and follow infection prevention practices.

Check instruments and equipment for proper functioning before use.

Clean, sterilize, organize, and maintain surgical instruments and equipment according to established protocols.

Clean and prepare operating rooms between procedures and restock supplies.

Monitor departmental supply levels and order supplies as directed.

Provide reassurance, protect patient privacy, and interact professionally with patients and families.

Complete documentation accurately and follow hospital policies and patient safety standards.

Participate in department meetings, quality improvement activities, and ongoing staff development.

Perform other duties as assigned by the Nursing Director or Charge Nurse.

Qualifications Required Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Preferred At least one year of operating room experience.

Graduation from a Surgical Technology program.

Surgical Technologist Certification (CST) by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) preferred.

Skills and Competencies Knowledge of sterile technique, infection prevention, and surgical instruments.

Ability to prepare equipment and supplies and maintain an organized work environment.

Effective communication and teamwork.

Ability to respond calmly to changing needs in a fast-paced clinical setting.
