Mechanical Designer II
Overview
UE Manufacturing is hiring an experienced Mechanical Designer II to create and maintain 3D models, detailed 2D drawings, and engineering documentation for mobile and skid-mounted equipment.
In this hands-on role, you will partner closely with engineers, fabricators, and assemblers to turn design concepts into accurate, manufacturable solutions.
Responsibilities
* Create and maintain 3D models and detailed 2D fabrication, assembly, and installation drawings for mobile and skid-mounted equipment.
* Develop and maintain accurate engineering Bills of Materials (BOMs).
* Partner with engineers on the layout and packaging of mechanical and electrical systems, with a focus on function and manufacturability.
* Help develop design concepts and evaluate practical design options.
* Apply company standards, customer specifications, and drafting practices to produce consistent, accurate, and manufacturable designs.
* Read and interpret manufacturing prints, technical drawings, and schematics.
* Update models and drawings and process Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) to support design changes, production needs, and continuous improvement.
* Work directly with fabrication and assembly teams to resolve design issues, clarify drawings, support fit-up and installation, and incorporate shop-floor feedback.
* Assist with reverse engineering of components and assemblies when needed.
* Provide input on task duration and progress to support project schedules.
* Travel occasionally to customer sites, vendor locations, and other company facilities.
Qualifications
* 3-5 years of related manufacturing or mechanical design experience.
* Strong working knowledge of 3D CAD software and mechanical design and drafting principles.
* Working knowledge of ANSI drafting standards and basic geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
* Knowledge of weldments, sheet metal, routing design, and the Engineering Change Order process in a manufacturing environment.
* Ability to read and interpret manufacturing prints, technical drawings, and schematics.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
* Clear verbal and written communication, strong attention to detail, and practical problem-solving skills.
* Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, work independently, and collaborate effectively with engineers, supervisors, and production teams.
* Commitment to safe work practices and established company processes.
* Proficiency with SolidWorks CAD software.
* Experience using a manufacturing ERP system such as Oracle or SAP.
Education:
* Associate’s degree (technical school or college) preferred.
* High school diploma or GED.
Physical Demands:
* Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
* Ability to occasionally climb ladders and crawl underneath trailers.
