Lead HSE Technician
The Shift HSE Specialist is a frontline safety leader responsible for supporting safe, compliant, and environmentally sound operations during assigned shifts.
This role serves as a bridge between Operations and the HSE function, promoting a strong safety culture while ensuring adherence to company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.This position will be filled by experienced process technicians with demonstrated safety leadership and will include structured training in HSE systems, regulatory compliance, and incident investigation.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES- Verify and audit ALL life critical jobs in the area of coverage- Review and validate all CSE data sheets prior to turning over to operators /operations- Perform Mitigation checks in area of coverage- Perform Environmental checks / audits in area of coverage- Carseal and PSV rounds- Inspect and maintain emergency response equipment in area of coverage- Perform PPE audits, inspections, and LCS training for area of coverage- Audits of lockouts prior to outages- Oversee compliance for hose inspection program- Primary participant in drill planning, key observer during drill, primary participant in post drill critiques- Act as the on-shift safety champion, reinforcing safe work practices and behaviors.- Promote a proactive safety culture through engagement, coaching, and positive reinforcement.- Lead by example in compliance with all safety rules, procedures, and expectations.- Support and participate in safety campaigns, initiatives, and behavioral safety programs.- Conduct routine field safety observations and audits.- Identify hazards, unsafe conditions, and at-risk behaviors; ensure timely correction.- Participate in and support Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) and Pre-Task Risk Assessments.- Verify proper use of PPE and adherence to safe work procedures.- Assist in the reporting, investigation, and documentation of incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions.- Gather initial facts, witness statements, and evidence following incidents.- Support root cause analysis and tracking of corrective actions.- Help communicate lessons learned across shifts.- Support and verify compliance with safe work permitting / life critical processes (e.g., hot work, confined space, lockout/tagout).- Ensure permits are properly issued, understood, and followed in the fi resource for process technicians needing guidance on safe work requirements.- Monitor adherence to OSHA, EPA, and company HSE standards.- Support compliance audits and inspections.- Assist in maintaining required safety documentation and records.- Mentor and coach peers on safe work practices and hazard recognition through active participation in the behavior observation program - Adaptive- Participate in delivery of shift-level safety training, monthly safety meetings, and Shift starter messages.- Serve as an incident commander during plant emergencies.- Assist with evacuation, accountability, and incident command support as needed.- Partici...
