Lateral Police Officer

This opportunity is specifically for experienced, certified law enforcement officers interested in joining our department as a Lateral Police Officer.

We are looking for candidates with prior certified law enforcement experience from a recognized law enforcement agency, where a state or federal certification was obtained.

Qualified lateral candidates may be eligible for up to 80 hours of vacation and up to 40 hours of sick leave, based on years of qualifying law enforcement experience.

SALARY:$75,432.72 - $86,337.99, with opportunity upwards to $102,805.51 based on qualifications.

The 2026 selection process is as follows: STEP DATE(s) 1.

Application period: October 7 October 28 2.

Physical Fitness Testing: October 28, 29, 30 November 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 9, 10 3.

Panel interviews: November 3 & 4 4.

Personal History Statement, TABE results, and law enforcement certification due by: November 11, 2026 5.

Background Investigations: November 23 to December 18 6.

Chief Interviews: Week of December 7 (Approximately) 7.

Conditional Offer of Employment: Week of December 14 (Approximately) 8.

Conditional Offer testing: December 28 January 8 (Approximately) a.

Polygraph b.

Medical Exam c.

Psychological Exam 9.

Final Offer of Employment: January 11 (Approximately) 10.

Start Date: January 19 (Approximately) Important information about the selection process: The Papillion Civil Service Commission reserves the right to modify the schedule if necessary due to extenuating circumstances.

You are required to meet the essential functions of a Police Officer to be eligible for employment.

It is important that you review the job description and physical fitness requirements.

After successful completion of the application process, you will be provided with an email from the City that includes details regarding the Personal History Statement form and the physical fitness standards.

The physical fitness standards can be found on the Nebraska Crime Commission website: https://www.ccstest.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/Cooper-Standards-for-Law-Enforcement-Age-Gender.pdf The Personal History Statement is due no later than November 11, 2026, by end of day.

Failure to submit the Personal History Statement will disqualify you from this selection process.

After a successful application, you will be emailed a link to submit the online Personal History Statement after Human Resources receives and reviews your application.

The expected duration of the selection process is approximately 97 days (October 7 January 11).

All elements of the selection process shall be administered, scored, evaluated, and interpreted in a uniform manner.

The selection process uses only those rating criteria or minimum qualifications that are related to the Police Officer job.

Applicants who meet the required minimum qualifications shall be eligible to participate in the selection process.
