After School Counselor - Wake Tech Apprentice Program | Taylor Family YMCA

POSITION SUMMARY: In partnership with Wake Tech Community CollegeEarly Childhood Apprenticeship program,and under the supervision of theProgram Director,the Youth CounselorApprenticeis responsible forleading, developing, and building relationships with the youth participants inassignedprogram.

Theyare responsible formanaging thesefunctionsinaccordance withthe stated mission, goals, and policiesestablishedby the administrative staff, governing committees, and Board of Directors of the YMCA.

After School program locations may include: Kingswood, Laurel Park, Morrisville, Northwoods, and Salem Elementary schools.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Supervisesand builds relationships witha group of elementaryand/or middle schoolstudents.Implements program activities that are culturally relevant, developmentallyappropriateandconsistent with YMCA values.Creates an atmosphere that is fun, safe,friendlyand challenging.Mentors and models responsible behavior while leadingchildren inthe program.Models andfacilitatesrelationship-building skills in all interactionsandmaintainspositiverelationships with campers, parents, schoolstaffand other YMCA staff.Adheres toYMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinarysituations, child abusepreventionand emergency management.Ensures that space and equipment used for the program is taken care of andleft in good, clean condition daily.Attends staff meetings andtrainings.Develops andmaintainscollaborative relationships with community organizations.

Maintains regular, clear, and concise communication withinareaof responsibility.

QUALIFICATIONS: Must becurrently enrolled in Wake TechsApprenticeship programand selectedtoparticipatebycollege administrationguidelines.Previousexperience working with children or teenspreferredbutnotrequired.Experience preferred in one or more of the following areas: outdoor education, planning andorganizing activities, crafts, songs/music, skits, sports, recreational games,etc.Specific certifications and/or training may berequired.Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.Multi-lingualdesired but notrequired.
