Position Summary
The Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) works under the direction and supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist to provide therapeutic treatments and rehabilitation services that help residents achieve their highest level of functional independence.
Essential Responsibilities
* Provide physical therapy treatments as directed by the supervising Physical Therapist.
* Accurately complete all required documentation in accordance with facility, state, federal, and payer requirements.
* Maintain a safe treatment environment through adherence to infection control and safety standards.
* Participate in care plan meetings, interdisciplinary team meetings, and rehabilitation conferences as needed.
* Collaborate with nursing staff and assist with training restorative nursing aides.
* Communicate resident progress, goals, and discharge planning updates with the supervising therapist and interdisciplinary team.
* Educate residents, families, and caregivers regarding treatment plans, home exercise programs, safety awareness, mobility techniques, and fall prevention.
* Recommend and coordinate appropriate durable medical equipment including walkers, canes, splints, grab bars, and other assistive devices.
* Assist with quality assurance initiatives and rehabilitation program development.
* Provide facility in-service education and training as needed.
* Maintain confidentiality of resident and facility information.
* Build positive relationships with residents, families, staff members, and healthcare partners.
Qualifications
Required Education & Experience
* Associate Degree from an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program.
* Experience in skilled nursing, post-acute care, rehabilitation, or long-term care preferred.
